Mesa County approved a $741,177.75 agreement with United Companies to construct the first phase of the North River Road Shoulder Improvement project to add four-foot shoulders to the east end of North River Road from the Colorado River bridge to the west of the RV park near the Town of Palisade's boundary line.
The project, which will be constructed in two phases, aims to develop two miles of dedicated roadway shoulder to connect downtown Palisade to a new trailhead facility for the Palisade Plunge and Palisade Rim Trail.
Mesa County is allocating funds from a Great Outdoors Colorado Trust (GOCO) grant to cover costs associated with impacts from the Palisade Plunge, a 33.8-mile multi-modal trail that will take pedestrians, equestrians, and bikers from the summit of the Grand Mesa to the Town of Palisade.
The Palisade Plunge Trail is expected to draw tourists from afar and create an economic development opportunity for the Town of Palisade and surrounding communities.
