A Free Conference for Foster, Kinship and Adoptive Parents and Child Welfare Staff

Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS) and Kin Connect join forces with placement families and child welfare staff from multiple community organizations to present a conference titled Together We Can: Our Community, Our Kids.

While connecting with families and staff at the conference, attendees will learn about how we can all come together to support our older youth and teens in Mesa County.

Where: Canyon View Vineyard Chapel
736 24 ½ Road, Grand Junction
When: Tuesday, August 16th
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Together We Can, will bring foster and kin providers together with child welfare staff and certified public accountants. The overall theme this year is about supporting our youth in out-of-home care. There will be breakout sessions throughout the day featuring Kim Raff (founder and director of Family Alumni Mentors) as well as the therapy and placement teams of MCDHS. There will also be a panel of youth who have been impacted by foster care.

The keynote speaker Josh Shipp is a former foster youth who graduated from Harvard University and is a bestselling author, award-winning speaker and youth advocate. Shipp is renowned for the documentary TV series on A&E that followed his groundbreaking work with youth and families. He is regularly called on by CNN, The New York Times, Good Morning America and others to provide commentary on common challenges faced by parents and teachers. Over the years, Shipp has keynoted events for countless groups of parents, educators and social workers.
