Summer is here and the forecast says the pavement is too hot for your dog's paws.
As temperatures rise and stay high throughout the day, leaving your pups at home is the best practice. Taking your dog on outings in the summer months can lead to injuries such as burns and blisters on your dog’s paws, or even contribute to canine heatstroke.
So how do you know if it’s too hot to bring your dog along on your day trip?
Place your hand or bare foot flat on the pavement for 10 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s also too hot for your dog to walk on.
If your energetic dog still needs to get out of the house this summer, there are more ways to protect your dog’s paws from the extreme summer heat.
You can try taking your dog on walks early in the morning or late at night when the heat has subsided or purchasing a pair of dog booties if you plan to bring your dog on several adventures this summer.
Thank you for being a responsible dog owner and protecting your dog’s paws from hot pavement.
