This morning, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners proclaimed May as Foster Care Month in Mesa County to honor and thank all foster parents who care for children and youth displaced from their birth parents, and commend the hard work, love, and time kinship parents give to the children and youth in their care.

Margery (center), a 17-year foster parent for teenage girls, is presented with the National Foster Care Month proclamation by the Mesa County Commissioners.

Foster parents provide the love, safety, and stability that children need to overcome past traumatic experiences. Currently, there are approximately 200 children in Mesa County under the care of foster parents.

During National Foster Care Month, Mesa County celebrates those who have invited a child in need into their hearts and into their homes and express profound appreciation for all who help make foster care possible.
