Garry Brewer, Grand Mesa Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, accepts the Bill of Rights Day Proclamation presented by the Board of Mesa County Commissioners.

On December 15, 1791, the United States of America's founding fathers approved a document that contained amendments to the Constitution that would become the foundation of the freedoms, privileges, and rights we enjoy today. The first ten amendments of the Constitution of the United States of America would become known as The Bill of Rights.

These amendments limit the federal government's power and guarantee each citizen — life, liberty, justice, property, and the pursuit of happiness.

In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed December 15 to be Bill of Rights Day in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Bill of Rights ratification.

On this 229th anniversary of the Bill of Rights' ratification, all people in the United States can live and prosper because of the freedoms and privileges insured by this document.

Today, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners proclaimed December 15, 2020, as Bill of Rights Day in Mesa County and encourages all residents to reflect on the Bill of Rights ratification's importance.

December 15, 2020, is Bill of Rights Day in Mesa County.
