The Palisade Plunge Trail hand crew works in a snowy winter wonderland.

It's been 19 weeks since construction started on phase 2 of the Palisade Plunge Trail. This week, terrain and weather conditions have been a challenge. The majority of the trail is covered in snow and ice. However, crews continue to push forward and make progress.

The crew working off the Lands End Road crossing has machine-finished another 1,684 feet of the trail. Their mini-ex is sitting approximately 1/3 of a mile from the road crossing. The crew also brought in one of the two culverts for the stream crossings.

There is no easy way to haul in pieces of the culvert.

The wall work and switchbacks are now complete on Otto’s Wall. The crew has minor work to finish and will then move down the trail, working toward the hand crew below the switchbacks.

The hand crew, past Otto’s Wall, has been completing rock work and tying into the machine cut trail below. They are hoping to get additional reinforcements and a nicer weather forecast.

Crewmembers complete rock work on the portion of the Palisade Plunge Trail past Otto’s Wall.

About 13.41 miles of total finished trail has been completed, which leaves roughly 1.32 miles to go before the completion of Phase 2 (total 14.73 miles).

Here is a view of the multitude of switchbacks starting near milepost 12 below Otto’s Wall.
