A transportation study released draft recommendations for a new 29 Road interchange at I-70, northeast of downtown Grand Junction. Also included in the recommendations are improvements along 29 Road between I-70 and Patterson Road. The project aims to improve local and regional roadway connections and enhance access to/from I-70 and planned land use north of I-70.

Mesa County and the City of Grand Junction have been conducting this study to investigate the need and overall vision for improved access to I-70 between the existing Horizon Drive and I-70B interchanges. This study provided a thorough understanding of the existing and future transportation conditions as well as the potential benefits and impacts of a new interchange, which has long been included in local and regional transportation plans.

Draft study recommendations, an overview of the study process, and next steps are outlined in a video on the project webpage: www.mesacounty.us/residents/transportation/29-road. In lieu of an in-person public meeting, members of the public are encouraged to watch the short video and provide their feedback by August 27th.

Those without internet access can pick up a printed copy of the information presented in the video along with a comment form at the Mesa County Central Services Building help desk, 200 S. Spruce Street, Grand Junction (located through the doors labeled “Motor Vehicle”). Public input is an important component of this study. The project team will consider comments before finalizing the study this Fall.

Mesa County and the City of Grand Junction have funding for the environmental clearance study of the recommended improvements, and that phase will also include public input opportunities. Funding for the interchange final design and construction and related 29 Road improvements has not yet been identified, so timing of construction is uncertain.

Additional information can be found on the study’s web page, and comments can be submitted online: www.mesacounty.us/residents/transportation/29-road
