After an almost 90-day road closure, 31 Road, leading to the Mesa County Landfill, is now open.
For about three months all vehicles accessing the Organic Materials Composting Facility and the Landfill, 3071 US Highway 50, were rerouted to Hookless Boulevard. During construction, residents were advised of longer waits and were encouraged to limit the number of trips they took to the landfill during the construction.
“We are excited to have these much-needed safety improvements to 31 Road,” Mesa County Solid Waste Operations Manager Jennifer Richardson said. " This project will benefit not only the Solid Waste Campus visitors but also those that utilize Animal Services and the Road and Bridge and Fleet Departments."
Improvements to 31 Road include intersection reconstruction, a right turn lane, traffic islands, and fence relocation, which will aid in visibility and sight distances for traffic traveling over the hill into the entrance of the Mesa County Composting Facility.
“We appreciate the efforts made by Mesa County engineers and the contractor to ensure the long-term safety and well-being of those visiting our campus,” Richardson added.
