State of the County

Mesa County has navigated through years of financial upheavals caused by restrictive budgetary challenges. However, 2017 has been a turnaround year, and well-planned budgeting has allowed Mesa County government to provide needed services to residents. Officials and staff continue doing what they can to improve efficiencies in service delivery by implementing innovative ideas.

The latest indicators, presented in the State of the County's presentation, show a slight improvement in the local economy.

"The economy is showing lots of signs of improvement," said John Justman, Chair of the Mesa County Board of Commissioners. "We have seen an increase in building permits and sales tax, and we have seen a decrease in the unemployment rate."

Mesa County Administrator Frank Whidden presented the 2018 State of the County report to the Mesa County Commissioners on Monday, Feb. 26. Here is the presentation:
