The crisp and colorful leaf piles surrounding the streets of Mesa County are a great reminder it’s time to compost your leaves!

The Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility, 3071 U.S. Hwy50, accepts leaves, tree limbs, grass clippings, weeds, hay, animal bedding, manure, and hedge trimmings on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Composting is nature’s way of recycling nutrients from dead organic material into the basic building blocks of new plant growth. Mesa County utilizes specialized heavy equipment to speed up the natural decomposition process and produce uniform, high-quality soil amendments sold to the public at a lower rate than most commercially available products.

Adding compost to your lawn and garden will help insulate roots, make the most of winter precipitation, and boost your depleted soil for a beautiful spring.

After you’re done jumping in the leaf pile outside your home or admiring its beauty, bag up the leaves and head to The Organic Materials Composting Facility to give the fallen leaves a brand new purpose.
