Due to the collaboration among the Western Colorado Drug Task Force (WCDTF), Mesa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), and Grand Junction Police Department, on Aug. 30, 2022, defendant Jerry Morgan was sentenced to 12 years in the Department of Corrections on convictions for
- DF1 - distribution of a schedule 1/2 controlled substance 225g+ (21CR1337)
- DF2 - possession with intent to distribute 7-112 grams (21CR1001)
- Misdemeanor possession of a defaced firearm (20CR1382)
Spanning an investigation that began in 2020, the MCSO Property Investigation Team, in collaboration with WCDTF, looked into storage unit burglaries, executed a second search warrant on Morgan's property less than a year later, and ended up with Morgan as a named co-defendant in a wiretap drug investigation, which was initiated in late 2020 and continued into the first half of 2021.
In total, law enforcement recovered approximately 23 grams of methamphetamine across the three cases pertaining specifically to Morgan. During the investigation, Morgan confessed to regularly receiving pound quantities of methamphetamine from a supply source. Most importantly, 38 firearms, including many reported stolen, were recovered. The firearms were forfeited as part of the sentencing in front of 21st Judicial District Court Judge Matthew Barrett.
