Mesa County Commissioners adopt the budget for 2021 in public hearing on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020.

The Board of Mesa County Commissioners today approved a cautious and stable $194 million budget for 2021 that prioritizes core government services as we recover from the financial and operational effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total county budget is $194,998,865, a 3.68% increase (or $6,926,789) over the 2020 adopted budget. The net county budget, which deducts inter-fund transfers and internal services, totals $169,615,540.

The general fund is $69,182,856 in revenue and $68,709,742 in expenditures. To review more detailed budget information, click here.

“The budget is a reflection of the priorities our board has made to pull through from the resulting consequences of COVID-19,” Scott McInnis, Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, said. “We are in awe of the strength and courage our community has had to muster dealing with the virus, fires, and challenges this year has brought.”

“We must stay fiscally vigilant as we serve our community through this ongoing public health crisis and its economic repercussions.” Chairman McInnis added. “Every single penny counts when providing services to our businesses and residents, so we must remain alert and watchful as challenges continue to arise.”

The 2021 county budget invests $37.4 million in capital projects, including:

• Public Works — road infrastructure and improvements — $23.9 million
• Facilities — $3.2 million
• Regional transportation — $1.8 million
