The Mesa County Assessor’s Office is conducting a survey regarding COVID-19’s impact on Mesa County’s real estate market. If you would like to participate, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D9LFJW8, and complete the survey by Wednesday, Sep. 30, 2020.

The survey aims to gather information on the effect the government-mandated shutdown has had on property values to develop a fair and equitable assessment of commercial properties in Mesa County.

Colorado assessors are required to assess all taxable real property in the county every two years, and every assessor is audited every year.  The appraisal date for tax year 2021-2022 is June 30, 2020.

“We anticipate this reassessment will have some unique challenges since, as a result of the pandemic, the state government ordered a widespread shutdown of commercial activity,” Mesa County Assessor Ken Brownlee said. “Never before has the government ordered businesses’ offering legal products and services to close in such a manner, which has resulted in unique and uneven market activity.”

“In light of recent economic conditions, the Mesa County Assessor’s Office is surveying COVID-19’s impact on the county’s real estate market,” Brownlee added. “The survey is confidential information that will be used to help develop a fair and equitable assessment of commercial properties with the most current and up-to-date view of our commercial real estate market. We will assess all property in the county. Participation in this survey will help us get it right.”

Data will be used for statistical analysis to collect income and expense information on income-producing properties and value properties based on local information. The data will not be used to value any individual property; however, it will help analyze economic impact by property class.
