It was a short work week due to the Memorial Day Holiday, but with hot temperatures, bedrock, and bug bites, Palisade Plunge Trail crews persevered and managed to construct another 2,415 feet of new trail.
On Friday, May 29, local biologists conducted a migratory bird survey from milepost (MP) 26.0 to 27.2. They didn’t find any nests, which will allow crews to finish clearing vegetation from where the lower crew left off, up to where the upper crews are now. The only remaining area on Phase 1 that will still need to be cleared lies within the already established raptor buffer areas from approximately MP 24.6 – MP 21.5.

The last remaining buffer area may have to wait until August to be cleared to satisfy the wildlife restrictions.
On Thursday, the construction crew received a surprise visit from the CEO of Singletrack Trails, Greg Mazu.
Greg Mazu and Mesa County Project Manager Josh Springer inspected about 18 miles and climbed 3,500 feet in elevation. The six-hour bike ride provided first-hand experience on how the trail will ride.
