Mesa County applied for and was awarded a $285,200 grant match to help address pedestrian connectivity to Rocky Mountain Elementary.
The Board of Mesa County Commissioners today in public hearing approved a grant match agreement between Mesa County Government and the State of Colorado, Department of Transportation, for $285,200.00.

The grant agreement aims to improve pedestrian connectivity for Rocky Mountain Elementary students living in the Candlewood Park and nearby neighborhoods. The proposed improvements will complete the remaining half mile of sidewalk along D 1/4 Road, between 32 and 32 1/2 roads.

The project will include a 10' wide attached concrete sidewalk, curb and gutters, stripped sidewalks, as well as upgrading curb ramps at the intersection of D 1/2 and 32 1/2 roads, which is directly adjacent to Rocky Mountain Elementary.

The construction of this project will most likely start early next year.
The sidewalk project area is on the south side of D 1/4 Road from 32 Road to 32 1/2 Road, along the Candlewood Park.

This project will improve transportation and security by eliminating safety and mobility issues due to the lack of sidewalk along D 1/4 Road, between 32 Road and 32 1/2 Road, for students traveling to Rocky Mountain Elementary.

Access issues often include muddy and uneven shoulder surface, strewn with utility markers, and exposed water valves.
