The Mesa County Commissioners proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month in the Grand Valley and called upon all citizens, community agencies, religious organizations, medical facilities and businesses to participate in programs and activities that help prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening our community.
The majority of child abuse cases stem from situations and conditions that are preventable in an engaged and supportive community. Child abuse and neglect not only directly harms children, but also increases the likelihood of criminal behavior, drug abuse, and risky behavior such as smoking and alcohol abuse.
