The current bridge conveying 24 Road over the Grand Valley Irrigation Canal (GVIC) is structurally deficient due to corrosion of the steel beams and scouring of the footings. Currently, the steel beams do not have sufficient free-board, which will require increasing the profile of both 24 Road and I Road approximately 4-feet at the intersection of those roadways immediately to the north of the existing bridge.
The 24-H.96 Bridge Replacement Project will include the construction of a new bridge over GVIC, related road work, irrigation modifications, and road profile improvements. Additionally, there will be a reconstruction of the intersection at 24 Road and I Road to improve the sight distance.
The anticipated completion date of this project is the beginning of May 2019. Mesa County received a grant from the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) for this project.
