The Board of Mesa County Commissioners commemorated Vietnam Veterans Monday morning with a proclamation recognizing the service and dedication of veterans of the Vietnam War. From the left, Mesa County Veterans Services Officer Brian Oney, Vietnam Veteran Lou Brackett, Commissioner John Justman, Vietnam Veteran Ron Barstad, Commissioner Rose Pugliese, Vietnam Veteran Wayne Telford and Commissioner Scott McInnis. Recently, Veterans line up with flags to welcome pinning ceremony attendees to the Mesa County Fairgrounds.

The Board of Mesa County Commissioners attends the Vietnam Veterans Pinning Ceremony on Monday afternoon.

The Board of Mesa County Commissioners, in conjunction with Mesa County Veterans Services, honored Mesa County Vietnam Veterans and their families at a recognition ceremony Monday afternoon at the Mesa County Fairgrounds. The Commemoration provides Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins at formal public presentations to living U.S. military veterans, who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, as a lasting memento of our nation's gratitude.

Vietnam Veterans from Mesa County are given a lapel pin and a proclamation from the Board of Mesa County Commissioners and Mesa County Veterans Services.

Commissioner Scott McInnis is honored to stand by two Medal of Honor recipients Robert Patterson (left) and Gary Littrell (right). Sgt. Robert Martin Patterson of Raleigh, N.C., moved forward to destroy bunkers pinning down the leading squad and continually exposed himself to enemy fire to defeat five enemy bunkers. Sgt. 1st Class Gary Lee Littrell of Henderson, Ky., repeatedly put himself in danger to direct air support, distribute ammunition, care for wounded and encourage friendly forces. Global War on Terror (GWOT) Wall of Remembrance is a traveling memorial aiming to bring healing to those that have been affected by America's longest war. GWOT Wall of Remembrance was at Base Camp 40, on Glade Park, making its first-ever appearance in Colorado. It’s a reminder of those who have given so much for our freedom.

Hazardous materials that are being shipped out of Mesa County include old gasoline, paint thinner, oil-based paints, peroxides, calcium carbide, caustic cleaners, acids, toilet bowl cleaners, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides.
