Mesa County staff members at the Community Services Building campus, 510 29 1/2 Road, hosted a "Giving from the Heart" food drive and collected over 1,000 food items. K Road is currently closed between 20 Road and 21 Road. Dirtworks Construction is in the process of widening the roadway to allow for 4-inch paved shoulders on both sides of the road, and will then be overlaid with a new asphalt pavement surface. The roadway will be closed until this work is completed which is anticipated for the end of March depending on weather conditions and reopening of the asphalt plants by the suppliers.


Road work has K Road closed between 20 Road and 21 Road (closure started Feb. 19).  The projected is expected to be completed by the end of March.

In February, Mesa County Engineering & M.A. Concrete Construction started construction on the V.8 Road and Big Salt Wash Crossing bridge project located off 16 Road. The existing V.8 Road, shown in the photo above, crosses Big Salt Wash through the bottom of the wash, which during storm events, makes the road impassable for residents in the area.

Mesa County received a $450,000 Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant to assist in the construction of the bridge on V.8 Road. The project is expected to be completed early this summer.

As part of the 29 Road Pedestrian Underpass Project, northbound traffic on 29 Road over the Colorado River will be detoured to the west side of the bridge, along with southbound traffic, on Monday, March 5. This will allow for construction equipment to stage on the east side of the bridge during the placement of concrete for the pedestrian underpass below the bridge. Traffic will resume normal operations on Tuesday.

The latest economic indicators presented in the State of the County address, show a slight improvement in the local economy.

Mesa County has navigated through years of financial upheavals caused by restrictive budgetary challenges. However, 2017 has been a turnaround year, and well-planned budgeting has allowed Mesa County government to provide needed services to residents. Officials and staff continue doing what they can to improve efficiencies in service delivery by implementing innovative ideas.
