This map shows the survey activities underway for the Mesa County Risk MAP Study. The red dots are locations where the survey has been completed. The blue streams are areas where CWCB will be returning for more information.
Survey activities are underway for the Mesa County Risk MAP Study. The Risk MAP study was initiated to update floodplain mapping in certain watersheds of Mesa County based on new, updated information available.
The study will help develop data that reflects actual, updated conditions and provide a framework for land use and other decision-making in areas likely to be affected by future flooding, erosion, and debris flow events.
The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) is the lead agency coordinating these updates. The mapping and survey contractors working with the CWCB are WSP (formally Wood) and Merrick & Company, who both are well-qualified, nationally recognized engineering firms with expertise in floodplain mapping and field surveying. They will be conducting field surveys and remote sensed measurements of structures in and near the floodplains in your community. Flood sources they are visiting will include Kannah Creek, Limekin Gulch, Monument Canyon, and Lewis Wash.
The WSP surveyors will attempt to contact landowners prior to the survey efforts to acquire permission. If they are unable to contact the property owners, they will be knocking on doors while in the field. They will be finishing up the surveys in 2-3 weeks.
Upon request, the surveyors will identify themselves by driver’s license or state identification and this letter of introduction from the CWCB.
