Safely dispose of sharps

Needles and other sharps (devices with sharp points or edges that can puncture or cut skin) are dangerous if not disposed of correctly — they can cause injuries and infections that lead to serious health conditions. Safely dispose of sharps using the following directions.

1. Purchase a commercially available sharps container from a pharmacy or other source, or use a strong plastic or metal container with a tightly secured lid.
2. Label the container as “Used Sharps.”
3. Firmly seal the container.
4. Store the sealed sharps container away from children and pets.
5. Drop off your sealed sharps container to the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 3071 U.S. Highway 50, Thursday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Never recycle sharps, place them loosely in your trash, or flush them down the toilet.
