In November 2021, the voters of Mesa County passed Ballot Measure 1A County, which overrides Ordinance 11 and allows certain marijuana businesses. Amendment 64, and the Colorado Marijuana Code, specifically, C.R.S. §44-10-104(1)(a), allows counties to adopt resolutions or ordinances governing the cultivation or sale of marijuana.
This Ordinance aims to have a single set of regulations for the efficient administration of marijuana laws and regulations applicable to both medical marijuana and retail marijuana to the extent that doing so conforms to the requirements of the Colorado Marijuana Code.
Before the adoption of the Ordinance, it was published in the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel on May 6, 2022. The first reading of the Ordinance occurred at the May 17, 2022, administrative public hearing and was continued at the June 7, 2022, administrative public hearing for final reading and adoption on June 28, 2022.
The Board also held a public work session on June 9, 2022, to discuss potential changes to the Ordinance.
