Mesa County Commissioners approved a $200,000 contract for Earthbind, an environmentally safe, non-corrosive product to enhance the performance of gravel road maintenance.

Earthbind is a dust palliative that provides dust control on roads. It consists of an asphalt base stabilizer, emulsifier, water, and other enhancement or non-detrimental ions. The product is non-chloride, penetrating, water-resistant, engineered explicitly for gravel road dust control and stabilization.

After extensive testing and three years of application, Earthbind has shown a 60% reduction in prep work and summertime blading on gravel roads, saving Mesa County Road and Bridge money and time while providing a cleaner, longer-lasting product for Mesa County residents.

Annually, Mesa County maintains approximately 81 miles of gravel roads, which takes about 355,482.45 gallons of dust control material.

The application of materials to Mesa County roads to mitigate or control dust in Mesa County is required once a year.
