Ferris family donates $100K to The Lighthouse Project.

Thank you to the Ferris Family for their generous donation, which will help elevate services to keep youth out of the justice system and in school.

In Jan. 2022, The District Attorney's Office and Mesa County Valley School District 51, in partnership with Colorado Mesa University, launched The Lighthouse Project, a new program to address truancy in D51 schools.

Colorado Mesa University President John Marshall talks about the importance of The Lighthouse Project for the community.
The Lighthouse is located at Colorado Mesa University's campus.

Here is how the program works — District 51 students facing suspension, expulsion, or the possibility of a truancy case filed against them will be referred to the Lighthouse Project on CMU's campus. They will be paired with a college student mentor who will serve as a role model to help guide the youth in the program while gaining experience as a mentor.

District Attorney Dan Rubinstein thanks the Ferris family for their generous donation.
