Mesa County approved a $75,000 contract renewal for noxious weed right-of-way (ROW) spraying. Mesa County aims to keep ROWs free of noxious weeds to protect agriculture and ecological values and reduce the economic stressors that invasive plants can cause.

In 2021, Mesa County solicited a formal Invitation for Bid process (IFB-2101-21-DF). The bid was posted using the Rocky Mountain E-Purchasing System (RMEPS) website and advertised in the Daily Sentinel. Five proposals were received for the Roadside Weed Control service. Of the five responses received, Horizon Vegetation Management submitted the lowest bid. The original contract was approved on March 29, 2021, with a term of April 2, 2021, to December 31, 2021. The extended contract term is March 28, 2022, to December 31, 2022.

Herbicide use is a critical tool in improving traffic safety and reducing costs associated with ROW management.
