On Tuesday, March 1, Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis submitted a letter of support to the Colorado Joint Budget Committee for Colorado Mesa University’s capital construction project to replace the Robinson Theatre.

The letter states:

"The Robinson Theatre was originally built in 1968 when the University was known as Mesa College. The Theatre continued to serve the college as it grew into a State College in 1988 and then into the University in 2011 which currently boasts enrollment exceeding 11,000 students.

As it currently stands, the Robinson Theatre is in need of such consistent maintenance and necessary repairs that it would be in the best interest of all to replace the theatre altogether.

Replacement of the theater would decrease maintenance needs and bring the building back within current building codes, as well as increasing the seating capacity, allowing for more people to be exposed to the beauty of the performing arts.

This capital construction project is a great gesture to show the University’s dedication to providing the highest quality of education to these students as well and continuing to promote the value of arts in the Mesa County community.

I appreciate the Capital Development Committee’s consideration of funding this construction project that will serve our entire community in promoting the performing arts."
