On Sept. 13, Mesa County Commissioners Cody Davis and Janet Rowland voted 2-0 to appoint Scott McInnis as the Mesa County Director of the Colorado River Water Conservation District.

Scott McInnis is a member of a multigenerational Colorado family. McInnis served as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives — among other assignments, he served as the Majority Leader and as a member and Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee. McInnis also served as a U.S. Congressman for six terms, where he served on the Natural Resources Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.

Throughout his almost 30 years of public service, his working knowledge of water issues has been extensive. Over the years, with his legislative service, McInnis worked closely with the River District. Additionally, McInnis was a partner with the Delaney and Balcomb law firm, which was legal counsel for the Colorado River District at the time.

“I am honored to serve on the Colorado River District Board of Directors as the Mesa County designee,” McInnis said. “The protection of water is vital to Mesa County’s agricultural producers, economy, and way of life.”

Mesa County has a critical role in the River District, considering the amount and seniority of water rights with the Colorado River.
