On February 21, 2000, Mesa County launched Grand Valley Transit, a public transit system created in partnership with the City of Grand Junction, the City of Fruita, and the Town of Palisade.  Earlier this year, Grand Valley Transit turned 21, and this week, Mesa County will celebrate transit service in the Grand Valley with an anniversary celebration.

The celebration will take place on Wednesday, Sept.15, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the south patio of the Grand Junction Convention Center. Special guests will speak about the history of GVT, and members of the Grand Valley Regional Transportation Committee will take time to recognize GVT drivers who have been serving the community for five years and greater.

Transit agencies throughout the state will also attend the event, as it coincides with the annual fall conference for the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA), held in Grand Junction Sept. 14-17.  This will be a great time to celebrate the importance of transit in communities throughout Colorado.

The GVT 21 Year Celebration is open to the public and through a sponsorship by Gillig; the event will feature live music by Lincoln Pants Band, lawn games, cupcakes, and a cash bar.

For more information about the GVT Anniversary Celebration, contact Sarah Brooks, Mobility Manager, at 970-244-1830 or sarah.brooks@mesacounty.us.
