The Mesa County Board of County Commissioners has initiated an update of the current Mesa County Master Plan, a comprehensive planning document that establishes the framework for land use decisions in unincorporated Mesa County.
The Mesa County Community Development Department will lead the update of this document, aligning land use policy with current community values and goals with a long-term vision for Mesa County.
The County has hired Colorado-based Design Workshop, an award-winning planning, and landscape architecture firm, to support the work on the Master Plan.
The County invites the community, non-profits, local jurisdictions, and industry leaders to collaborate to develop and refine a vision for the future of Mesa County. A public engagement strategy has been developed to allow for inclusive community involvement across all sectors and demographics. Future opportunities will be announced as dates and locations are determined.
When the 2022 Master Plan is adopted, it will help guide future land use and investment decisions for the next 20 years. The creation of the Plan will require an iterative process that includes re-examining existing conditions and market conditions, identifying future trends and opportunities for innovation, extensive community engagement, compliance with State Laws, and alignment with other plans. An emphasis on thorough research, efficient data collection, and meaningful engagement will ensure that the Master Plan reflects the community’s values and incorporates the strategies and elements necessary to ensure sustainable growth.
In addition to the Master Plan, two concurrent processes are also being undertaken, an updated Strategic Plan and a feasibility study of the Clifton area.
If you are interested in participating and helping to shape your community, please reach out to Greg Moberg, Community Development Director, greg.moberg@mesacounty.us, or 970-244-1650.
