The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has been awarded a $441,109.28 grant from the Electronic Recording Technology Board (ERTB) to maintain and improve the County’s electronic filing system. The grant aims to modernize recordkeeping to promote accessibility and consistency for the public in an efficient and user-friendly manner.
In Colorado, a $1 per document technology fee was implemented in the early 2000s to aid County offices across the state in funding technological advancements in recording. For every recorded document, the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder’s Office collects $3, of which $2 goes to the State ERTB fund, and $1 goes to the Mesa County Technology Fund.
“The purpose of the grant is to preserve vital Mesa County records for future generations, and the ease and accuracy of retrieving them,” Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters said. “The ERTB grant will help us perform the massive undertaking to process very fragile, vital historical records dating from 1883 to 1967.”
“Many of the records are on microfilm, microfiche and in old recording books, so it’s critical that we preserve them in a digital format,” added Peters.
