Mesa County Commissioners proclaimed July 2021 as Hunger Awareness Month to encourage residents to strengthen our community by participating and supporting efforts to prevent hunger among individuals and families in our community.
One in eight Mesa County residents are considered food insecure, and 52% of school-aged children qualify for free and reduced-price lunches. No one should go hungry. Each Mesa County resident should have consistent access to sufficient food for an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Mesa County Blueprint to End Hunger is building upon our community’s assets to create an efficient emergency and short-term hunger relief system, maximize the utilization of food assistance programs, increase the quality of nutritious food available for those who are hungry while expanding food recovery efforts to ensure nutritious food is not thrown to waste.
